I Do.

De Kooning said it best, ”We must change to stay the same.”

It’s a long–term relationship, this oath to art,

this weird lifestyle and product of some need to be.

More than just desire is the doing, the obsessive practice,

the argument and undoing and the precious days of ease

that reveal a natural belonging together.

And then the art says, now do it again, differently.

Renew your vow to me.

“In this relationship, all things are all laid bare for examination; to be better in the end, directness and honesty are important. As in painting, one requires total honesty to know what works, what doesn't and what can remain and what musn't. Sometimes, the acceptance of those things is the only challenge. Moving into the place that is closer to better, or best, is elation. It takes work but it works for us.”
